BEIRUT— The Lebanese Army announced in a statement Friday that it filled in a trench of about 200 meters in length that the Israeli army had dug on the outskirts of Mays al-Jabal (Marjayoun district) on Wednesday night.
"On 5/6/2025, an army unit worked in coordination with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon - UNIFIL to fill a trench of about 200 meters in length that the Israeli enemy had dug on the outskirts of the town of Mays al-Jabal - Marjayoun on the night of 4-5/6/2025. The Army Command is following up the situation in the south in coordination with UNIFIL and is working to eliminate the Israeli enemy's violations", the statement reads.
On Wednesday night, our correspondent in the South reported that an Israeli force, reinforced with two bulldozers and two vehicles, breached the fence in an area east of Mays al-Jabal where it bulldozed olive groves and built a large trench and an earthen berm.
Despite a cease-fire agreement signed in late November 2024, following more than 13 months of conflict, the Israeli army continues to carry out near-daily airstrikes in Southern Lebanon and occupies five areas within Lebanese territories.
Earlier on Friday, the Lebanese Army warned that it may halt its cooperation with the International Monitoring Committee overseeing the Israel-Lebanon cease-fire. This warning comes as Tel Aviv, according to the Lebanese troops, refused to allow the Lebanese Army to inspect certain places identified by the Israeli army as hosting drone manufacturing sites in the southern suburbs of Beirut, which were bombed Thursday night, on the eve of the Adha festival.
