The Higher Judicial Council (HJC) met on Monday, led by Souheil Abboud, First President of the Court of Cassation.

Attendees included Vice President Jamal Hajjar, President of Judicial Inspection Ayman Oueidat, and members Souheir Harakeh, Habib Rizkallah, Nada Dakroub, Nassib Elia, Ghada Abou Karroum, Mona Saleh, and Nawal Saliba.

The judicial body issued a statement on this occasion, indicating notably that “with the full reconstitution of the HJC by its ten members, it is now essential to immediately proceed with judicial transfers and appointments.” It adds that the HJC “has already begun discussions on this subject,” while affirming that these appointments “will be based on objective criteria, with full respect for the principles of integrity and competence and taking into account the real needs of the courts and a balanced distribution of judges, ensuring efficiency and balance in the functioning of justice.”

Last month, Judge Ghada Abou Karroum was appointed to the Higher Judiciary Council. She is the 10th and last member of the HJC to have been appointed by ministerial decree upon the proposal of the Minister of Justice Adel Nassar.
