BEIRUT — The Beirut Judicial Branch of the Judicial Police Unit arrested a married couple after they allegedly stole $100,000 from a residence in the Verdun area, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) said Sunday.

The complaint was received on May 22, and following a directive from the judiciary, the unit launched an immediate investigation, the ISF said.

The suspects, both Lebanese and born in 1984 and 1995, were identified and taken into custody. According to the ISF, the husband is related to the complainant.

During questioning, they confessed to hiding the stolen money in a rented apartment in Khaldeh, south of Beirut, where the cash was later recovered concealed behind a refrigerator.

The money was returned to its owner, and legal measures have been taken under judicial instructions.
