Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Saturday thanked United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for dispatching an Emirati delegation to Beirut earlier this week to assess Lebanon’s priorities and needs.
During a meeting with the delegation on Tuesday, Aoun welcomed “the interest expressed by Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed in Lebanon, which confirms the deep fraternal ties between the two countries.”
In a phone call on Saturday, Aoun expressed gratitude for the UAE’s “official delegation tasked with examining the needs and priorities of the Lebanese state,” saying the visit reflected the outcomes of last month’s Lebanon-UAE summit in Abu Dhabi.
Aoun told Sheikh Mohammed that the visit underscored the UAE’s ongoing support for Lebanon and reaffirmed “the strong brotherly relations between the two nations and their peoples.” He expressed hope that the mission’s findings would serve as a clear foundation for Lebanon’s recovery and future cooperation between Beirut and Abu Dhabi.
President Aoun visited Abu Dhabi in late April. Since taking office on Jan. 9, he has also visited Saudi Arabia and Qatar, aiming to rebuild strained ties with Gulf monarchies amid tensions over Hezbollah’s influence in Lebanon.
