The Information Ministry announced on Friday the opening of applications for the positions of chairman of the board, general manager, as well as five non-permanent board members of the state-run public broadcaster Télé Liban.
It invited "competent and specialized Lebanese" to submit their applications and encouraged interested individuals to consult the job descriptions, conditions, and qualifications required, published on several state-run websites, notably those of the prime minister and the Information Ministry. Applications can be submitted via the following link: https://seniorrecruit.omsar.gov.lb/positions_ar.aspx
The deadline for submitting applications is set for June 6, 2025.
After taking office, Information Minister Paul Morcos pledged to revitalize Télé Liban, the only public television channel. After proposing the appointment of a new board for the channel, he ultimately had to backtrack in the face of opposition from the majority of his colleagues within the government, which reproached him for not adhering to the recently adopted cabinet appointment mechanism. The minister finally announced that he would adopt this system for these appointments. Morcos originally asked the cabinet on March 25 to approve the appointment of a new board for Télé Liban chaired by Bassam Abou Zeid, a journalist from LBCI. But the government overwhelmingly voted against this suggestion.
The minister told L'Orient-Le Jour on April 3 that he would follow the government's decision. Morcos's initial argument was that Télé Liban was a "private company" not "subject to the government's administrative appointment mechanism."
Prime Minister Nawaf Salam announced in March the adoption of a new appointment mechanism in public administration based, among other things, on skills and transparency, while many leadership positions in Lebanon are managed on an interim basis, a consequence of more than two years of vacancy in the presidency before the election of Joseph Aoun last January.
