The FPM’s municipal election victory in Jezzine proves to be more complicated
Although the FPM won against the Lebanese Forces, this result appears to have stemmed from an alliance with Ziad Aswad, who was dismissed from the party, and the extended hand of Ibrahim Azar, an ally of Nabih Berri.
Free Patriotic Movement (FPM) leader Gebran Bassil addressed his supporters a few hours after Saturday’s municipal elections in Jezzine, southern Lebanon, saying “General Michel Aoun is still Jezzine’s first love.”He had just scored a major victory against his main Christian rival, Lebanese Forces (LF) head Samir Geagea.
