The Health Ministry issued a reminder Wednesday to all public and private hospitals in Lebanon to fully cover the medical expenses of patients holding a disability card issued by the Social Affairs Ministry.
“This is not a new announcement, simply a reminder to all hospitals,” a Health Ministry spokesperson told L’Orient Today on Thursday.
In Lebanon, the rights of people with disabilities are primarily protected under Law No. 220/2000, which guarantees access to health care, education, employment and social services.
The law affirms the right of individuals with disabilities to receive medical treatment and rehabilitation services, ensuring they are not excluded from the national health care system.
A central component of the law is the issuance of a Personal Disability Card by the Social Affairs Ministry, which serves as official recognition of disability status and allows holders to access a range of benefits, including full medical coverage paid by the Health Ministry.
