The Gaza Strip is facing a 'critical risk of famine,' with 22% of the population soon to be in a 'catastrophic' situation after 19 months of conflict and more than two months of a humanitarian aid blockade, according to the IPC (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification) report published Monday.
The entire population — about 2.1 million people — could be in a "crisis or worse" situation in terms of food insecurity by September, with 470,000 of them, or 22% of the total, in a "catastrophic" situation, the report indicates, as a result of the expertise of NGOs, specialized institutions, and U.N. agencies.
