The company of the helicopter that crashed in New York's Hudson River, resulting in six deaths, is "ceasing operations immediately," the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced Sunday.

"New York Helicopter Tours, the company involved in the fatal accident on the Hudson (...) is ceasing operations immediately," the authority stated on X, as the investigation into the circumstances of Thursday's crash continues.

A family of Spanish tourists, including an executive from the German industrial group Siemens and his wife, celebrating her 40th birthday, along with their three children and the helicopter's pilot, died in the crash.

According to the mayor of New York, possible causes of the accident include a collision with a drone or a bird or a mechanical failure.

The FAA also announced the launch of an "immediate review of the company's license and safety record," which offered flights over New York with spectacular views of its skyscrapers or the Statue of Liberty. "Safety is the FAA's number one priority, and we will not hesitate to take action to protect the public," the Washington-based authority warned. A "helicopter safety roundtable" will be held on April 22, it said.

This is the deadliest accident since 2018 in New York, detailed Friday on X by Steven Fulop, the mayor of Jersey City, the city located on the other side of the Hudson.
