A Hezbollah member was killed Monday morning in an Israeli strike on the village of Taybe, in the Marjeyoun district of South Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, local sources contacted by our correspondent in the South, Mountasser Abdallah, and the Shiite party. This strike was conducted following a series of overnight bombings on the border strip between Lebanon and Israel, notably in Naqoura (Sour) and Aita al-Shaab (Bint Jbeil), despite the ongoing cease-fire.
“The strike carried out by an enemy Israeli drone on the village of Taybeh resulted in the death of a citizen,” stated the Ministry of Health. The victim's identity was not immediately known. Hezbollah announced shortly afterward in a statement that the man killed was a member of its ranks and was named Mohammad Adnan Mansour of Taybe, originally from Taybeh.
For its part, Israel claimed to have “targeted and eliminated” a local Hezbollah military leader. It presented Mohammad Adnan Mansour as the “commander of Hezbollah artillery in the Taybeh region.” It claimed that the man had “directed and led numerous projectile attacks against the Upper Galilee” in northern Israel during the war between the pro-Iranian group and the Israeli army.
Earlier, L'Orient Today's correspondent reported that another person, whose identity was not immediately known, was also injured in this strike. The drone strike targeted the owner of a motorcycle shop who succumbed to his injuries, in Taybeh, on the road leading to Odaisseh, a few kilometers from the Blue Line. This strike set his business on fire and damaged a nearby car.
Another Israeli strike, also carried out using a drone, targeted a car in Beit Lif (Bint Jbeil) this afternoon, injuring two people, according to residents quoted by our correspondent. The hit car caught fire.
Nighttime shootings on Aita al-Shaab and Naqoura
During the night, Israeli army helicopters repeatedly targeted the south, notably aiming at Naqoura and Aita al-Shaab.
Between 10 and 11 p.m., Israeli helicopters flew over the sea off Naqoura, while the headquarters of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), located in this area, sounded sirens.
Shortly thereafter, an Israeli helicopter fired a missile at a prefabricated structure near a Lebanese army center in Naqoura. The structure was completely destroyed. Another strike, also conducted by a helicopter, hit the same village an hour later.
In Aita al-Shaab, shortly after 10 p.m., Israeli helicopters alternated between firing a stun grenade and several missiles, notably around a gas station and on the outskirts of the village.
Fighter jets were also observed above the Bekaa, according to L'Orient Today's correspondent in the area.
Israel continues its strikes despite a cease-fire that was signed on Nov. 27 after a year of conflict with Hezbollah, and maintains troops in several points in the south of the country. These strikes have killed at least 132 people since the truce took effect.
