Lebanese Tonia Makary has officially qualified for the prestigious Ironman World Championship triathlon, which will be held in Kona, Hawaii, on October 11, 2025, reports the state-run National News Agency (NNA) on Saturday.
Originally from Ehden (North Lebanon), Tonia started her triathlon career in 2020, after undergoing knee surgery. In May of the same year, she began training with Joao Artice with the goal of competing in the Ironman World Championship in Kona, adds the agency.
Her recent performance at the Ironman South Africa in Port Elizabeth, her second full Ironman race, on March 20, 2025, earned her a spot at the starting line in Kona in October.
Kona is the historical home of the Ironman World Championships, a kind of extreme triathlon, consisting of a 3.8 km swim, 180 km of cycling, before finishing with a marathon (42.195 km) run.
