Christiane Lagarde, president of the European Central Bank (ECB), stated Wednesday that the tariffs planned by U.S. President Donald Trump would have a negative impact globally, with the extent of the damage depending on their scope, duration, and their ability to lead to fruitful negotiations.

"It will be negative all over the world, and the intensity and duration of the impact will vary based on the extent of the measures, the products targeted, their duration, and the potential for negotiations," she said during an interview with Irish radio Newstalk.

"Because let's not forget that these tariff escalations, as they often prove to be harmful, including to those who impose them, frequently lead to negotiation tables where the parties sit down, discuss, and eventually lift some of these barriers," she added.
