Information Minister Paul Morcos denied several local media's claims that the Cabinet agreed on the cancellation of this year’s Brevet exam in Thursday's meeting. Morcos clarified that the issue has not yet been discussed and that the government still needs to examine the draft decree sent by Education Minister Rima Karameh.
Karameh submitted a draft decree on Wednesday to cancel the exam, taken at the end of the school year in the ninth grade. A source confirmed to L’Orient-Le Jour that the Brevet has not yet been canceled and that the draft decree must first go through the Council of State.
The decision to cancel the 2025 Brevet exams could be taken due to the lack of financial resources. Moreover, the start of this school year coincided with the escalation of the armed conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.
This could be the third consecutive year that this standardized national test might be canceled.
