Health Minister Rakan Nassereddine began a tour Saturday of several hospitals in South Lebanon that were heavily impacted by Israeli strikes during the 13-month war between Hezbollah and the Israeli army, from October 2023 to November 2024.

Nassereddine, who was nominated by Hezbollah during the formation of Prime Minister Nawaf Salam’s government, started his visit at Mais el-Jabal Governmental Hospital in Marjayoun, where he pledged to support "the reconstruction and restoration of healthcare infrastructure."

"We cannot resist if we do not support hospitals, especially those located at the border (…) We also support strengthening the Lebanese army and backing healthcare personnel," he said, according to statements reported by the National News Agency. The conflict caused severe damage in border villages, some of which were entirely destroyed by Israeli forces.

Nassereddine said he has begun assessing the needs of Meis el-Jabal Hospital to launch its renovation, ensuring access to medications for patients and better support for employees. Speaking during the visit, MP Kabalan Kabalan of the Amal Movement called for "repairing the hospital as soon as possible." The facility was put out of service in early October 2024 by Israeli strikes.

The minister is also expected to visit the government hospitals in Bint Jbeil and Tibnin.

The Israeli army did not spare hospitals, healthcare centers, or relief organizations during the escalation of its offensive between Sept. 23, 2024, and the cease-fire that took effect on Nov. 27.
