In response to the increasing thefts in Mais al-Jabal (Marjayoun), the municipality decided on Saturday to take a series of measures and set up a system for its residents.

Among the directives is the prohibition of transporting scrap metal or allowing the entry of collection vehicles owned by non-residents, under penalty of confiscation and legal proceedings for theft.

In a statement reported by L'Orient Today's correspondent in the region, the municipality requested security forces and Lebanese authorities to settle in the village to ensure respect for order and law, and to conduct regular patrols. The statement also urged residents of Mais al-Jabal to check and secure their belongings, install new locks, and take care of their valuables.

At the beginning of the week, the residents of Mais al-Jabal, heavily bombarded during the conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, returned to their village after the withdrawal of the Israeli army.

Starting on Nov. 27, a cease-fire agreement concluded after two months of full-scale war between Israel and the party, during which Israeli troops took positions in southern Lebanon, bordering northern Israel. According to the terms of the agreement, Israel was supposed to have completed its withdrawal from this region, where only the Lebanese army and U.N. peacekeepers were to be deployed, by Jan. 26. Hezbollah was, in turn, supposed to dismantle its infrastructure and withdraw north of the Litani River, about 30 kilometers from the Israeli border. But the deadline was extended to Feb. 18.
