A mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. this Sunday, Feb. 9, in honor of the patron saint of the Maronites at Saint George Cathedral in downtown Beirut, with President Joseph Aoun and several officials and invited guests in attendance.

On this occasion, the General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces (ISF) has announced several measures to ensure the “smooth conduct of the event.” Traffic will be completely banned in the entire downtown Beirut perimeter starting at 6:00 a.m. Sunday until the end of the mass (exact time unspecified). Vehicles will be diverted to the coastal road and the “Ring” bridge overlooking the city center.

Furthermore, parking will be prohibited starting at midnight (Saturday, Feb. 8), and vehicle circulation will also be banned starting at 6:00 a.m. in the following areas: from the naval base to Al-Ghazal Tower; from Al-Ghazal Tower to ESCWA; from ESCWA to Riad El-Solh Square and Saifi; in the Lazaria district, including parking areas; in the Saifi district; on Martyrs’ Square, including parking areas; from the An-Nahar newspaper intersection to Al-Amine Mosque and Bachar El-Khoury (Finance Ministry slope); from the Sion-Sodeco descent toward downtown Beirut, with a diversion to the right toward Al-Ghazal Tower and from Al-Ghazal Tower intersection toward Saifi.

The statement urges citizens to respect these measures and comply with the signage in place to facilitate traffic flow and avoid congestion.
