BEIRUT — A young man was killed in Faraya, Kesrouan district, on Saturday night after a dispute over the right of way escalated into a fatal attack, local media and the state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.

The victim, Khalil Khalil, was followed to his family’s hotel by a man and his mother — identified by NNA as J.C., 25, and R.A. — after the altercation took place at a different spot. The driver then deliberately ran him over with the vehicle before striking him on the head, reported NNA.

Khalil’s sister, noticing a suspicious vehicle outside the hotel, stepped outside and found her brother lying motionless on the ground. Speaking to local channel MTV, she condemned the deteriorating security situation in Lebanon. “Are we living on a farm?” she asked, calling on authorities to arrest the perpetrators and hold them accountable.

The Lebanese Red Cross transported Khalil to Saint-Georges Hospital in Ajaltoun, where he was pronounced dead. The attackers initially fled, but later on Sunday, army intelligence arrested two suspects — R.S. and J.C. — in the Akkar district village of Eyat, NNA reported. They had allegedly been dropped off in the area by a driver. Authorities have launched an investigation to confirm their identities.

The killing sparked outrage in Faraya, with residents blocking a road with burning tires and demanding the perpetrators be brought to justice. Security forces are investigating the circumstances of the attack.

The municipality of Hrajel, a village neighboring Faraya also in the Kesrouan district, condemned the killing, calling it a "tragedy" and urging "a transparent and fair investigation to bring the perpetrator to justice." It also praised the stance of the suspect’s family, who publicly denounced the crime and expressed solidarity with the victim’s relatives in seeking justice.

The incident comes amid a rise in violent crimes across Lebanon in recent days, many of them linked to theft.
