The Lebanese national Davis Cup team was defeated by Peru with a score of 4-0, Friday and Saturday in Cairo, Egypt, in the Davis Cup playoffs.
After dominating South Africa in September, Lebanon had the opportunity to reach the first world group in case of victory. But, the task was once again too great for the Cedars, who conceded four defeats in as many matches.
The Lebanese indeed had some ambitions following the historic run of Hady Habib at the Australian Open, becoming the first Lebanese player in history to qualify for the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament.
The new world No. 166 player failed to dominate Gonzalo Bueno (No. 256) by losing in three sets (6-3, 2-6, 6-4). Previously, Benjamin Hassan (No. 231) also conceded defeat to Ignacio Buse (No. 237) with a score of 6-3, 6-2, on Friday.
Paired in doubles on Saturday, the two Lebanese could not reverse the trend, conceding a third consecutive defeat against the same Ignacio Buse and Conner Huertos del Pino (6-4, 7-5), sealing the outcome of the meet contested in the best-of-five matches.
At 3-0 against them, the Lebanese allowed No. 3 Fadi Bidan to take on Huertos del Pino in a final inconsequential match, which was also lost 7-6, 7-6.
