The municipality of Khiam, in the Marjayoun district in southern Lebanon, urged its residents on Wednesday to exercise caution, inviting them to "take their time" and avoid any rush to return to the village, while emphasizing the need to wait for "an official statement from the competent authorities and the Lebanese Army" to assess the security conditions on the ground, four days before the expiration of the 60-day cease-fire deadline between Israel and Hezbollah.

After a war lasting more than a year and two months, the Israeli army continues to demolish houses in southern Lebanon, conduct operations and occupy part of the territory.

"We all share the impatience to return to our village, to count the hours that separate us from our return to this fortress, to pay tribute to our martyrs, to assess the condition of our homes, to evaluate our means of subsistence, and to breathe new life into Khiam," the municipality said in a statement sent to our correspondent in the region, Mountasser Abdallah.

In its text, it also warned the residents "not to give the barbaric enemy the opportunity to strike again, to betray, to attack, to kill or to once again sow destruction and terror."

As recently as Tuesday, Israeli bulldozers were spotted at Bab al-Thaniyeh, near the village, while the Israeli army continues operations and demolitions in the Marjayoun district, without any reported casualties.
