Mahmoud Abbas said the Palestinian Authority (PA) is ready to assume “full responsibility” in post-war Gaza, marking his first statement since a cease-fire deal was announced between Israel and Hamas.
“The Palestinian government, under President Abbas’ directives, has completed all preparations to assume full responsibility in Gaza,” the presidency said in a statement Friday. Those responsibilities include facilitating the return of displaced residents, providing basic services, and overseeing reconstruction efforts in the war-torn territory.
The statement, published by the official Palestinian Wafa news agency, also reiterated the government’s call for “an immediate cease-fire and full Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip.”
