The CEO of Middle East Airlines (MEA), Mohammad al-Hout, has been re-elected to his position by the general assembly of shareholders of the national airline, for a three-year term, according to an announcement made to the press by the carrier.

The election took place at 10 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The other elected board members are Marwan Salha, Fouad Fawaz, Sami Matta and Richard Moujaes. The latter replaces Michel Toueni, joining the three others who were already in office.

Hout has been leading MEA since 1998. The national airline was the only one serving Beirut's international airport between Sept. 26 and Nov. 27, a period marked by intensified fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. These clashes began on Oct. 8, 2023, following the outbreak of the Gaza war, and ended through a cease-fire agreement negotiated under the auspices of France and the United States. The Lebanese government organized a ceremony on Dec. 17 to pay tribute to the airline's personnel.

Founded in 1945, MEA is primarily owned (99 percent) by Banque du Liban.
