French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said Sunday that it is "essential that no power" takes advantage of Syria’s regime change to weaken the country, as his Syrian counterpart began an official visit to Qatar.

"Syria will obviously need help, but it is essential that no foreign power comes, as Russia and Iran have done for too long, under the pretext of supporting authorities or supporting Syria [...], to weaken it further," Barrot said on the private radio station RTL.
