BEIRUT — Lebanese police arrested a 24-year-old Lebanese man on Dec. 24 for attempting to smuggle Captagon pills hidden in trinkets to unnamed Arab countries, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced.
The suspect, identified as N. CH., was caught with 6.65 kilograms of Captagon concealed in a trinket that he was preparing to ship via a transport company. Authorities later uncovered an additional 3.8 kilograms of the drug hidden in another trinket intended for shipment through Beirut airport.
The ISF reported that two Lebanese accomplices were also arrested in connection with the smuggling scheme.
According to the statement, the same method had been used previously by smugglers who concealed 2.06 kilograms of marijuana in a trinket.
The arrests have reportedly exposed an international trafficking network smuggling Captagon pills. The ISF noted that cooperation with foreign authorities is underway, with wanted notices issued for other individuals involved.
