The head of French diplomacy, Jean-Noël Barrot, expressed hope on Friday for "a sovereign, stable, and peaceful Syria" during his first visit to Damascus.
"It is a real hope, but it is a fragile hope," added the minister, who was at the French embassy in Damascus, according to AFP journalists. Barrot and his German counterpart, Annalena Baerbock, are scheduled to meet together on Friday with the new Syrian leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa.
