Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported on X, quoting a high-ranking Israeli official, that Israel's aim is to reach a cease-fire agreement in Lebanon.
Israel's Channel 14 reported similar information earlier in the evening, also quoting an unnamed official.
Iraqi Prime Minister Mohamed Chia al-Soudani recently asserted that Iraq is actively working to prevent Israel from stirring up war in the region. This statement, reported by several Iraqi and Lebanese media, comes after growing tensions between the two countries.
According to Akhbar Al-Sharq, al-Soudani linked this dynamic to the issuance of arrest warrants by the International Criminal Court (ICC) against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister, Yoav Gallant. He believes that these warrants have contributed to Israel's aggression on the regional stage.
The Iraqi Prime Minister also referred to Israeli threats against Iraq, calling them “unconvincing pretexts.” This follows an official request by the Israeli government to the U.N. for immediate action to stop attacks by armed groups operating in Iraq. This request had been formally rejected by Baghdad, which had already communicated its disavowal last Tuesday.
⚡ U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein reiterated to Al-Jadeed that talk of sabotaging the agreement and his reported warning to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to withdraw from negotiations if Israel did not take a step forward were “inaccurate,” contradicting information reported earlier by Axios. He added that “no visit to Paris has yet been scheduled.”
According to Al-Jadeed, the Israeli army blew up several buildings in the town of Khiam, where fighting against Hezbollah has been going on for 10 days.
Iran rejects accusations that it was involved in the murder of Israeli rabbi Zvi Kogan in the United Arab Emirates, the Iranian embassy in Abu Dhabi said in a statement to Reuters on Sunday.
On Sunday, Israel's High Court of Justice examined petitions asking it to force the Israeli state to increase humanitarian aid to Gaza. The petitions had been filed some eight months ago by human rights organizations against the government.
The State's representative, Attorney Yonatan Berman, stated at the hearing that “efforts are being made to deliver 250 trucks a day; we have not yet reached this goal.”
He also noted that despite Israeli achievements, the Israeli army does not currently exercise effective control over the Gaza Strip.
Israeli army spokesperson Avichai Adraee announced on X that the second wave of bombing raids on Beirut's southern suburbs had hit “12 headquarters of Hezbollah's intelligence cell, 4400 unit and naval missile unit.”
⚡ Outgoing Education Minister Abbas Halabi announced in a statement that face-to-face classes will be suspended on Monday Nov. 25 in all educational establishments in Beirut, Metn, Chouf and Baabda due to the escalating violence between the Israeli army and Hezbollah.
These establishments will, however, have to provide distance learning, he added.
According to the Lebanese media, at least nine of the 12 buildings in Beirut's southern suburbs indicated by the Israeli warnings have been hit so far.
⚡ Emissary Amos Hochstein told LBCI that reports that Israel gave him the green light to conclude the agreement with Lebanon were “inaccurate,” without further details.
⚡ According to a senior Israeli official interviewed by Channel 14, Israel appears to be moving towards a cessation of fighting in Lebanon, “a possibility that could materialize in the next few days.” The official referred to an agreement to be signed under the aegis of the United States, specifying that it would be a temporary cessation of hostilities, pending a possible definitive truce.
The senior official also mentioned discussions on a possible settlement of the situation in Gaza, without going into details.
In his view, a cease-fire would offer Israel an opportunity to revive its economy, but would also represent a missed opportunity to defeat Hezbollah, which is a source of discontent for many residents of northern Israel.
Channel 11 relayed a similar message, claiming that the agreement had been reached and that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was considering how to announce it to the public.
According to Axios journalist Barak Ravid, U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein informed Israel's ambassador to Washington on Saturday that he would withdraw from mediation efforts if Israel did not respond favorably in the next few days to the proposed cease-fire agreement with Lebanon.
On X, the Israeli army's Arabic-speaking spokesperson emphasized the scale of the destruction inflicted on Beirut's southern suburbs, seemingly in response to the assessment announced earlier by Hezbollah. The latter had claimed to have destroyed six Merkava tanks during their advance towards Bayyada, in southern Lebanon, and carried out several attacks against Israeli bases, notably in Ashdod and near Tel Aviv.
“Anyone who thinks they can impose equations on Israel should avoid believing the news broadcast by Hezbollah's fake media, or take a trip to its southern suburbs to see the reality, especially today and tonight in particular,” the spokesperson wrote in a message posted on X.
