Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the Israeli parliament that the explosion of Hezbollah members' communication devices on Sept. 17 and Sept. 18 was launched ahead of schedule because the attack was "about to be discovered." According to him, the attack was originally scheduled for October.
"From the moment I learned that this was about to be revealed, I decided that it was necessary to act immediately ... There were those who argued that the U.S. should be informed ahead of time. I argued that the U.S. should not be informed because this could lead to either resistance or a leak, which is the same thing. A leak would have immediately demonstrated the effectiveness of the move. I denied it outright — and we acted,” he stated, according to comments reported by Times of Israel.
He also speaks about his deliberations ahead of the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah: “A legitimate argument arose that such an action could lead to the expansion of the campaign,” he stated, arguing that while the U.S. advised against it and asked to be informed, he maintained "with all due respect to our friends in the U.S., I rejected it outright.”
Netanyahu also claimed that "in the operations that followed, 70-80 percent of Hezbollah's rocket and missile capabilities were destroyed."
