Military developments in Lebanon are the subject of much debate in Israel, according to a Western diplomatic source who reports that assessments of the outcome and duration of the war differ.

American diplomatic activity has intensified in the run-up to the presidential election, aiming to obtaining a cease-fire, a partial agreement or a truce: From U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein's visit to Beirut and his contacts with the Israelis, to his trip to Paris, where he held meetings with French officials to discuss ways of ending hostilities in Lebanon and moving towards a political solution, to the efforts of Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
