In the year-long attrition war, the past month has witnessed the Israeli army intensified military campaign in Lebanon against Hezbollah, with daily bombing increasing daily in Beirut's southern suburbs, the Bekaa region and, mostly, southern Lebanon. Israeli attacks have turned several areas along its borders, in southern Lebanon, into 'ghost towns,' leaving them desolate, in some instances, and reducing them into ashes in others — as was the case with Ramieh, in the Bint Jbeil district, Mais al Jabal and Mhaybib in the Marjayoun district. Israeli ground offensive into several southern Lebanese villages and the destruction of homes, places of worship, schools and infrastructure are fueling fears of a scorched-earth policy by Israel.
