Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, commenting on the killing of Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, said on Sunday that the groups of the "Axis of Resistance" will continue to confront Israel with the support of Iran, according to Iranian state media. He emphasized that they would not hesitate to escalate their support.
An alliance known as the "Axis of Resistance," built up over decades with Iranian support, includes the Palestinian group Hamas, Hezbollah in Lebanon, Yemen's Houthis and various Shi'ite Muslim armed groups in Iraq and Syria.
Qalibaf's remarks follow Israel's confirmation that it killed Nasrallah in an airstrike on Hezbollah's headquarters in Beirut's southern suburbs on Friday. Hezbollah confirmed his death without disclosing how it occurred. Iranian media also reported that the deputy commander of the Revolutionary Guards, Abbas Nilforoushan, was killed in the Israeli strikes on Friday, according to Iranian media on Saturday.
"We will not hesitate to go all the way to support the resistance," Qalibaf said, according to official Iranian media. He also issued a warning to the United States, stating, "The Americans are complicit in all these crimes and must accept the consequences."
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi also commented on the assassination of Hassan Nasrallah, emphasizing that Israel "will never be able to rest" and that this action will not go unanswered, according to Iranian media on Sunday. He added that the region is in a dangerous situation.
Abbas Nilforoushan, the deputy commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, was also reported to have been killed in the Israeli strikes on Beirut on Friday, according to Iranian media on Saturday.
