Caretaker Education Minister Abbas Halabi stated Thursday to L'OLJ that he has announced to extend the closure of public and private schools and universities until Oct. 7 due to the significantly deteriorating security situation in the country this week.
"We cannot allow Lebanese children to move around in such conditions," the minister emphasized, noting that the ministry would shorten this period of suspension if there is a significant improvement in the security context.
"Every day classes are suspended is a lost day," he added, hoping that all relevant institutions and unions, that have been notified of this decision, will follow the ministry's directive.
All schools and universities in Lebanon have been closed since the beginning of the week due to a violent military offensive by Israel against Hezbollah, which has resulted in hundreds of deaths and thousands of injuries.
