BEIRUT — Five Palestinians were killed in two Israeli strikes on Sunday evening and Monday morning in the south of the Gaza Strip, according to Palestinian medical sources cited by Reuters and Al Jazeera, as Israeli bombardments continue in the enclave despite the "cease-fire" that took effect in October 2025.

On Monday morning, an Israeli drone strike killed two people and severely wounded three others near Rafah, according to medical sources at the Nasser hospital complex in Khan Yunis. The Palestinian news agency Wafa, citing witnesses, reported that the drone fired at least one missile at a group of people gathered near the Mou’awiya mosque in the al-Mawassi area, northwest of Rafah. The two people killed were identified as 22 and 29 years old, the agency reported.

In response to a Reuters inquiry, the Israeli military said it had targeted a “militant” from a Palestinian armed group in southern Gaza, adding that “the results of the operation were still under review.”

On Sunday evening, three other Palestinians were killed in an Israeli strike targeting a tent in the al-Mawassi area, where thousands of displaced Palestinians are sheltering on the Khan Yunis side, according to medical sources cited by Reuters. The Israeli military also said it had targeted fighters in the area but provided no further details.

The strikes come as the Israeli army continues its daily attacks and shelling across the Gaza Strip despite the “cease-fire” reached under U.S. auspices in October 2025. According to the latest figures from Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 1,493 Palestinians have been killed and 5,299 wounded by Israeli fire and bombardments since the agreement took effect.

At least 74,382 Palestinians have been killed and 175,416 wounded in the enclave since the start of Israel’s offensive against Gaza, launched following the Hamas attack on Oct. 7, 2023, which killed nearly 1,200 people in southern Israel.
