The Palestinian health ministry in the occupied West Bank said three people were killed in Israeli strikes on a refugee camp Thursday, with the army saying it hit armed militants.
A spokesman for the Ramallah-based ministry said in a statement that the three were killed "during an occupation strike on a house" in the Tulkarem camp in the northern West Bank.
The Israeli military said its forces carried out a "counterterrorism operation" at night in Tulkarem.
An "Israeli army aircraft struck several armed terrorists," while soldiers on the ground found "explosives planted below roads in the area," it said in a statement.
The United Nations said that in August, Israeli air strikes in the West Bank killed an average of one Palestinian per day.
Israeli air strikes were a frequent occurrence in the West Bank during the second intifada, a Palestinian uprising of the early 2000s.
After a long pause, they resumed following Hamas's unprecedented Oct. 7 attacks on Israel that triggered more than 10 months of war in the Gaza Strip.
Since then violence in the West Bank, occupied by Israel since 1967, has sharply escalated.
At least 640 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli troops or settlers, according to an AFP count based on Palestinian official figures.
During the same period, at least 19 Israelis, including soldiers, have been killed in Palestinian attacks, according to Israeli official figures.
