After having his match postponed on Saturday due to rain, Lebanese player Benjamin Hassan dominated Christopher Eubanks in style (6-4, 6-2) in his first round match at the Paris Olympic Games on Sunday afternoon at Roland-Garros.
Lebanon, represented at the Olympics for the first time in tennis, did not have to wait long for its first victory. The day after his compatriot Hady Habib lost with honors to Spain's world No.3 Carlos Alcaraz (6-3, 6-1), the 170th ranked player in the world showed his technical variety against the 2.01m American, quarterfinalist at Wimbledon and 105th in the ATP rankings.
Hassan will meet the winner of this Sunday evening's duel between Argentina's Sebastian Baez and Brazil's Thiago Monteiro in the next round. But the 29-year-old Lebanese won't have much time to savor this success, as he and Hady Habib will be back in action this evening, at around 8.30 p.m. (Beirut time), for the doubles tournament. The Lebanese pair, who play together in the Davis Cup, will take on the Australian duo of Matthew Ebden and John Peers.
