BEIRUT — Claims made on social media by dozens of accounts from outside of Lebanon that Hezbollah has dug an extensive and sophisticated network of tunnels in southern Lebanon have raised questions about what has long been rumored, but remains unverified.Recent posts reference an article initially published by American magazine Forbes in January titled “Gaza’s vexing tunnel network pales beside Hezbollah’s land of tunnels.” The Forbes article's only sources are from an Israeli think tank called the Alma Research and Education Center, founded by a retired Israeli army officer, staffed largely by army veterans, and accused of serving as the army's propaganda tool. In 2021, the center’s director of research found a map somewhere online, “posted by someone connected with the tunnel network,” which he claims shows underground...
