BEIRUT — Stormy weather in Lebanon on Monday caused landslides and flooding in Bekaa and in northern Lebanon.
L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the Bekaa district reported that heavy rains caused landslides toward the Assi River, flooding restaurants and cafes along the river’s banks.
The severe weather raised fears of damage to fish farming in the area, however, the agricultural fields of al-Qaa were spared from the downpour, according to the municipality’s mayor.
The northern and northeastern regions of Hermel, as well as the Baalbeck area, were flooded by muddy rainwater, according to reports from L’Orient Today’s correspondent in the North. The area also experienced lightning storms and hail.
The state-run National News Agency reported that the road linking Hermel to northern Bekaa was flooded in the storm.
The environmental NGO Darb Akkar reported flooding and hail in Akkar and Dennieh in northern Lebanon, in updates posted on social media.
Lebanon experienced huge rainfalls during the 2023/24 winter season. Several people drowned in the flooding, which also caused damage to roads and buildings across the country.
