BEIRUT — A man's lifeless body was pulled from the sea off the coast of Sour, in southern Lebanon, on Friday, the Civil Defense announced. Two other people were rescued alive and taken to hospital to receive medical treatment.
The Civil Defense said it also rescued five swimmers off the coast of Jbeil, in the country's north. They had been struggling in dangerous waters "due to the force of the waves and the speed of the current," the statement reads.
As the summer heat takes hold in Lebanon, the confounding elements of tumultuous and quick-changing weather with an increase in people visiting beaches have caused an uptick in drowning incidents.
On April 19, two people drowned off the coast of Sour and another three were rescued.
