BEIRUT — Kataeb MP Nadim Gemayel accused on Tuesday Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah of "distorting history and facts" after the latter blamed the Kataeb party and the Lebanese Forces (LF) for waging the 1975 war.
While criticizing the people who say that the Lebanese state must have the decision of war and peace, Nasrallah said on Monday that the LF and the Kataeb Party are the ones who waged the war in 1975, not the Lebanese government. Nasrallah said that while commenting on the murder of the head of the LF Jbeil district office Pascal Sleiman.
Sleiman was kidnapped and killed in Lebanon by a group of Syrian people who were trying to steal his car and then taken to Syria, according to the Lebanese army.
"Nasrallah is attacking us today and distorting history and facts, the war in 1975 was decided by Palestinian factions that wanted to eliminate Lebanon and wanted Lebanon as an alternative homeland," Gemayel posted on X.
He added that the Kataeb and the Lebanese Forces decided back then to defend themselves against Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) leader Yasser Arafat and his associates.
Commenting on Hezbollah's interference in the ongoing Gaza war through carrying out daily attacks against Israel, Gemayel described it as a "fictitious support front that brings destruction and devastation for propaganda purposes."
"In light of what is happening, Nasrallah insists on distracting from his series of defeats and the failure of his axis of terrorism and is waging a pre-emptive war [inside Lebanon] by inciting and spreading hatred and strife," he added.
