In a residential neighborhood, Hussein Ahmad Berjawi invited his family for a Wednesday night dinner. Later that evening, his family was being pulled from the rubble, after a missile ripped through their Nabatieh apartment.

A video circulating on X (formerly Twitter) shows three-year-old Hussein Amer being rescued from underneath collapsed slabs of concrete. His father Ali was seriously injured but survived the attack.

Hussein’s grandparents, Hussein and Amal, as well as his mother and brother, Zainab and Mahmoud, along with aunts and relatives Fatima, Ghadir and Amani were all killed in the strike.

"At first, we thought the house that was hit belonged to a Hezbollah member, " said the neighbor, Tarek Mroueh, 35, speaking to AFP.

"But then we learned that it was the building of Hussein Berjawi, a civilian with no political affiliation whatsoever," he said.

Earlier in the day, an Israeli air strike on the town of Souaneh killed mother Rawaa al-Muhammad, her son Amin, and her stepson Hassan, in their home. Hassan was a boy scout in the Amal-affiliated al-Rissala Scout Association.

The attack also injured 10 others, and Hezbollah announced one of its members was killed in the same wave of airstrikes carried out that afternoon.

On the other side of the border, earlier on Wednesday, an Israeli soldier was killed in a rocket attack launched from Lebanon. The Israeli army claimed that its air raid on southern Lebanon was in retaliation for the death of the soldier, who was stationed at the targeted military base in Safed, northern Israel.
