Exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah continued around the Lebanese southern border on Wednesday, according to residents and L'Orient Today's correspondent in the south.
The outskirts of southern Lebanese village Aita al-Shaab (Bint Jbeil) were bombed around 1 p.m., residents of the village told L'Orient Today.
Two explosions of unknown nature were heard around 2:24 p.m. at southern Lebanese border village Khiam in Marjayoun district, and Israeli bombings were heard around the villages of Markaba and Houla in Marjayoun district, residents of the area told L'Orient Today.
Other bombings were heard around Naqoura, a UNIFIL spokesperson who is based in Naqoura told L'Orient Today, around 2:28 p.m.
Hezbollah announced in a statement that, in support of the Palestinian people, they targeted "with rockets" at 2 p.m. an Israeli position facing the Lebanese village Houla (Marjayoun district) and that they directly hit the target.
More than 30 shells had fallen by 4:29 p.m. on the outskirts of the towns of Adaisseh, Houla, Rabb Thalathin, Borj al-Mlouk, Tell en Nhas, Khiam, Markaba (Marjayoun district) and the heights of Kfar Shuba (Hasbaya district), a security source told our correspondent in the south.
There was also violent artillery shelling on the outskirts of Aita al-Shaab and Yaroun (Bint Jbeil district), according to residents. Yaroun is where a group of journalists was targeted by two Israeli missiles on Monday, with minor injuries.
Violent shelling resumed on the outskirts of Yarine at 5:08 p.m., residents told our correspondent in the South.
The outskirts of Marwahine, the outskirts of Boustan, and the outskirts of Tayr Harfa were also targeted, according to residents.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army said that several launches were detected coming into Israeli territory from Lebanon, landing without causing casualties, and that the army is attacking launch sites with artillery, in a post published on X (formerly Twitter). The Israeli army added that its tanks targeted a Hezbollah observation post.
Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported more details saying that a rocket from Lebanon fell in an open area in the northern Israeli town Shlomi, without any alarms sounding to alert the residents of the area.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for attacking the site of Hadab Yaroun at 3:25 p.m. today and for targeting an Israeli vehicle at al-Tayhat 10 minutes later with "guided missiles" and causing "direct hits" in both attacks.
The town of Tayr Harfa has been subjected to Israeli artillery shelling since Wednesday afternoon, the mayor of the town, Hasan Haydar, told our correspondent in the South.
Haydar added that shells fell inside the town as well as on its outskirts and that two houses were damaged as a result.
This raises the number of homes damaged by Israeli bombing in the town to five since Tuesday.
Hezbollah said at around 7 p.m. that it targeted the Jal al-Deir Israeli site with "appropriate weapons" this evening and caused "direct hits."
