INVESTIGATION

Did Israel fire white phosphorus in South Lebanon? The evidence says yes.

The evidence we collected indicates that they did.

The residents of Dhayra, South Lebanon, told L'Orient-Le Jour that Israel fired white phosphorus on the night of Oct. 16-17, 2023.

They say that the white phosphorus attacks prevented civilians from fleeing, rescuers from arriving and ignited some of the surrounding homes and fields.

The usage of white phosphorus is prohibited against civilians or civilian objects according to Protocol III of the Convention on Certain Conventional Weapons.

Israel also used white phosphorus in Gaza in 2008 and 2009.

L'Orient-Le Jour conducted an investigation to determine whether Israel did use white phosphorus on Dharya.

Our journalists interviewed around ten residents who were on the scene at the time, doctors, civil defense members, military experts and human rights advocates.

Check our video to know what we found.
