BEIRUT — A Syrian man committed suicide after attempting to kill his wife Wednesday evening in Masnaa, Bekaa, a spokesman for the Internal Security Forces confirmed to L'Orient Today.
The man tried to cut his wife's throat before fatally stabbing himself, our correspondent in the region reported.
The ISF confirmed the news, adding that the woman was taken to the Taanayel Hospital and remains in critical condition. According to a police source, the couple was separated. Photographs sent to L'Orient-Le Jour showed the man lying in on his stomach, in a pool of blood in the kitchen. His remains were also transported to a local hospital.
Suicides and femicides have become more frequent in Lebanon and women's rights associations have been denouncing an "unprecedented" level of violence against women in recent months.
