BEIRUT — The alleged perpetrator of Friday's deadly shooting outside a mosque in Bar Elias, Bekaa, died of is injuries on Saturday, the state-run National News Agency reported.
I. I., who had opened fire on the army during the incident, died on Saturday evening at Chtoura Hospital in the Bekaa Valley. He had been wounded during his arrest.
His motive for the shooting was not yet clear.
The incident left one person dead and several injured, a security source told L'Orient Today on Friday.
A sit-in protest was organized in Bar Elias on Friday in response to the incident. The gunman's home had also been set on fire by unknown assailants.
Armed clashes are a frequent occurrence in the Bekaa, where the state struggles to exercise its authority.
