BEIRUT — The price of Arabic-style bread packages decreased slightly on Tuesday, according to the latest tariffs published by the Economy Ministry, as the Lebanese lira gained some value against the dollar on the parallel market.
A medium-size package of bread now weighs 809 grams and costs LL36,000 compared to LL37,000 on March 23 for 828 grams. A large package, which now weighs 1,032 grams, is being sold at LL 44,000, compared to LL 45,000 for 1,049 grams previously.
The ministry no longer issues official prices for small bread packages.
Since the end of March, the lira gained some value after falling back below the symbolic LL100,000 -against-the-dollar rate. The exchange rate has hovered around LL97,000 to the dollar for several days.
Also in March, bread industry representatives called for daily pricing of bread due to the constant fluctuation of the lira. The Economy Ministry has not yet announced any official decision on this matter, but the publication of new bread price lists is becoming more regular.
