BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army announced on Saturday that it arrested a man, Gh. M., who had several outstanding arrest warrants on charges of "shooting at security patrols, assault on soldiers, drug trafficking and forgery."
The man was apprehended during a road check in Ras al-Mal, in the region of Hermel in the Bekaa.
In a statement posted on its Twitter account, the Lebanese Army explained that their intelligence branch and army patrol "arrested Gh. M. for driving without papers ... But he was wanted and had several warrants for his arrest."
Weapons of war in his possession were seized, as well as forged identification documents.
As Lebanon continues to grapple with a now three-year-long economic crisis, security problems have worsened.
The Bekaa Valley is often the scene of armed clashes, trafficking of all kinds and violence attributed to personal vendettas that security forces struggle to contain.
