BEIRUT — Lawyer Ashraf al-Mousawi, the representative of the family of Zeina Kanjo, who was allegedly murdered by her husband in 2021, said on Thursday that Sweden's judiciary has arrested the suspected murderer, Ibrahim al-Ghazal, in implementation of the international Interpol warrant requested by Lebanon's public prosecutor, Judge Ghassan Oueidat, the state-run National News Agency reported.
It was not clear when exactly Ghazal was arrested.
Ghazal was prosecuted in February 2021 for intentional homicide, after his wife was found suffocated to death, at her house located in Ain al-Mreisseh, Beirut. Before her death, Kanjo had filed a complaint against her husband accusing him of domestic violence and was about to start divorce proceedings.
Beirut's first investigating judge, Charbel Abu Samra, is waiting for Ghazal's extradition from Sweden to initiate proceedings against him in Beirut.
