BEIRUT — Mount Lebanon's first investigating judge Nicolas Mansour released, on bail, Walid Hajjar — the unarmed depositor who held up a Crédit Libanais branch in Chehim, Chouf, on Wednesday — a judicial source confirmed to L'Orient-Le Jour on Friday.

The depositor was released to attend his father's funeral, the source added.

Hajjar had broken into the bank and poured gasoline on the premises in a bid to claim his own funds to cover his wife's health expenses. He eventually left the bank Wednesday night after retrieving $42,500 in cash and an unspecified sum in Lebanese lira.

Hajjar was escorted from the bank to the Chehim barracks for questioning by the Internal Security Forces.

Crédit Libanais did not file a complaint against him, but the General Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal of Mount Lebanon, Ghada Aoun, initiated proceedings against him and referred his case to Mansour.
