Lebanon's Finance Ministry announced it would suspend the LL1,000, LL5,000 and LL10,000 stamps, printed in 2021 and in previous years, starting from Jan. 4, 2023.
This decision is part of "the regularization of the stamps sale through the authorized offices in Beirut, and in order to avoid any monopoly or manipulation on the black market," the ministry said in a communiqué.
Stamps, which are essential for obtaining certain official documents, are often out of stock in Lebanon, some of them being sold on the black market at prices much higher than the official rates.
