BEIRUT — The Civil Defense rescued people trapped in their cars at Nahr Ibrahim, Jbeil, on Thursday morning after heavy rainfall.
The Civil Defense said in a tweet that they “had towed a number of cars” and rescued people who were trapped in cars submerged in rising waters.
In October, heavy rainfall severely flooded large swathes of Lebanon's low-altitude coastal areas, making it necessary for the Civil Defense to conduct rescue operations to evacuate civilians from their cars. They also had to draw out water from several residential buildings and warehouses in northern coastal areas.
With public infrastructure weakened by a three-year economic crisis, Lebanon finds itself, once again, ill-prepared for rainfall and winter storms.
