Relatives of patient attack Minyeh hospital following his death

BEIRUT — Relatives of a Syrian national who died from cholera in Minyeh hospital in North Lebanon on Saturday attacked members the medical team and destroyed property at the health care facility following his death, the state-run National News Agency reported.

According to the NNA, the person who died was in his 50s, and security forces deployed to the scene to investigate the matter in light of the deceased's relatives' outburst. 

Earlier Saturday, caretaker Health Minister Firass Abias toured North Lebanon, where the cholera outbreak started in Lebanon, to inspect the response to the spread in the area.

In a report released Friday, the Lebanese Health Ministry said it had identified seven new cases in the previous 48 hours, bringing the total number of infections to 227. Two new deaths were also reported, bringing the total to seven.

Later Friday, the World Health Organization said that sewage water testing conducted in Ain al-Mreisseh in Beirut, Ghadir station, and Burj Hammoud in Mount Lebanon confirmed the presence of cholera.
