BEIRUT — The Lebanese government approved on Saturday a request by the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and Municipalities to exempt Iraqi citizens from the requirement to obtain a visa in advance to enter Lebanon, the Iraqi News Agency reported, adding that the move is an attempt to increase cooperation between the two countries.

The INA reported that a free entry and residence visa for a period of one month, extendable for up to three months, will be granted to Iraqi nationals arriving in Lebanon for tourism purposes.

Iraqi citizens will also no longer need to possess an amount of $2,000 in cash or a certified check from a well-known bank, as a prerequisite for entering Lebanese territory. This decision was proposed to President Michel Aoun, who issued approval for it.
